Breathing Technique

Breathing is linked to mental well-being. Deep breathing can lower stress in the body. Deep breathing sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. Breathing exercises can help when you are overwhelmed, in practicing mindfulness, or when getting ready to go to sleep. When your body goes into “fight-or-flight” mode, it is important to remember to breathe. Taking deep breaths followed by a controlled exhale can calm you down when you are feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, breathing can help with sleep as it calms your nervous system and helps you focus on something other than not being able to fall asleep. To get the most benefit out of breathing exercises, it is recommended that you make breathing exercises part of your daily routine. The more you practice, the easier it will be.
